Winner of the coveted Best Female Act at the 2015 MTV Africa Music Awards, Yemi Alade is known for the song Johnny that made her an instant superstar when it hit the airwaves in 2013. The 27-year-old Nigerian songstress, who is respected by her peers, is making her third appearance on Coke Studio Africa, this year collaborating with Ghanaian dancehall artiste Shatta Wale.
Yemi’s debut album King of Queens was released in 2014, months after the successful release of her acclaimed Looking For My Johnny DVD. The song Johnny garnered an impressive 50 million views on YouTube. Her sophomore album Mama Africa was released in 2016. In it she has collaborated with notable African artistes among them Sauti Sol, P-Square, Sarkodie and Selebobo.
The Effyzzle Music Group signee embraces an afro-chic style and brand. This is always reflected in her music videos like Na Gode, Ferrari, Temperature, Kom Kom featuring Flavour, as well as Kissing and Tangerine featuring Selebobo. Her bold look has earned her a place on the covers of magazines like Allure, Hardknock and Life. She has even been crowned the Most Stylish Female celebrity at Africa Fashion Week Nigeria, and is the brand ambassador of the 2016 Africa Fashion Week London.
Born in Nigeria in 1989, Yemi Alade has steadily built her professional brand by performing in Africa and around the world. Her notable performances in 2016 include at the Africa Magic Viewer’s Choice Awards and Africa Fashion Week Nigeria. In 2015, she headlined a concert at Cuba Roma, Italy and also performed at the MTV Africa Music and Channel O Music Awards.
